Hello there loyal blog addicts! It has been a few days since we last posted and last night's festivities proved to be worthy of sharing. For the next two weeks Dublin is playing host to the Absolut Fringe Festival, a art/music/theater festival. The events are spread throughout the city and include comedy acts, musicians, theater and as we found out last night a fair amount of performance art.
The opening event of the festival was put on by a group called Macnas and was (as we later learned) the story od a boy who sleepwalks into a semi lucid dreamstate and chases a butterfly and then is joined by a horse, a stag, a hare and a wolf. Confused? So were, and are, we. Visually the event was pretty cool. It was held at the National Museum which is located at the Former Collins Barracks. The main square was where the show started before we were led on a "hunt" through the rest of the grounds. There were musicians dressed in pseudo mardi gras day of the dead type garb and corset clad performers running throughout the crowd.
Dublin is know as a very artistic city with a long history of theatrical and literary culture. Our first introduction to this was a little overwhelming and left us both scratching our heads a little. All in all it was interesting way to spend the evening.
